The Arabic Language

Approximately 376 million people worldwide speak the Arabic language, mainly in the Middle East. It’s important to note that the Arabic language comprises around 25 different dialects. Some dialects are similar, and some dialects tend to be very different from one another, therefore, when you decide to learn the Arabic language, it is important to know which dialect you would like to learn.

If you are unsure of which dialect you would like to speak, it might be wise to think about which region you would like to engage with, study, or visit. As several countries from a given region, such as the Levantine or Gulf, have similar dialects, these countries within the region share similar dialects. This might help with choosing a dialect, however, if you still feel that you do not know which dialect you want to pursue, you could also choose the Modern Standard Dialect.

Modern standard dialect, also known as Fushā, is a dialect known by all Arabic-speaking countries. However, the dialect itself is not spoken in daily life and is more known for literature, this dialect can also be a bit more challenging. It is recommended to choose a country dialect, as it is spoken daily, and you will be able to converse more easily with others.

Learning Arabic In Palestine

We would recommend learning Arabic in an Arabic-speaking country as it significantly helps with the learning process. You can apply what you learned in the classroom by trying to speak with the locals in Arabic, this will help you become more confident and comfortable with the language. Moreover, being in an Arabic-speaking country while learning the language is such an asset because you will learn words and sentences commonly used by the locals.

Learning Arabic in Palestine during winter is an amazing opportunity as you will be able to learn so much from the locals. They will help you speak Arabic confidently and comfortably as they will frequently speak to you in the language, providing you with the opportunity to learn even outside the classroom. Moreover, being in Palestine is fascinating as you will learn so much about the culture and history as well, which is also connected to the Arabic language.

Non-Intensive, Intensive, and Super-Intensive Arabic Course?

All winter-intensive Arabic Courses are available in different intensities. The Arabic course intensity is different from the course level. The Ammiyya program intensity determines the frequency of classes, as well as their level of immersion and out-of-classroom coursework.

1. Non-Intensive Arabic Course

Most relaxed intensity available, meeting for a total of 12 lesson hours (45 minutes per lesson hour) per week ~ about 3 hours of Arabic courses a day for 3 days a week. This intensity is designed to give students plenty of in-classroom immersion while also plenty of time to explore the city of Hebron, Palestine! We recommend that students interested in a long-term program (anywhere from 1 – 3 months) enroll in a non-intensive Arabic course.

2. Intensive Arabic Course

Designed to further immerse students into the Arabic language and culture. These courses consist of 20 lesson hours a week, with about 4 teaching hours of Arabic language instruction per day, 5 days a week. Intensive Arabic courses will have additional homework and out-of-classroom assignments.

3. Super-Intensive Arabic Course:

Designed for students who want a completely immersive, high-intensity classroom-oriented experience. Courses will include 30 lesson hours of language instruction per week, with 5 hours of language instruction per day, 5 days a week. We recommend Super-Intensive courses to those who are enrolled in shorter programs (1 – 4 weeks) because of the intensive course load.
